NAME: Jason Garsea.
OCCUPATION: Student.
STATUS: US citizen, no criminal record.
EDUCATION: 12th-grader at Collegium Caine.
MAIN POWERS: Energy manipulation.

Jason Garsea's parents, government-contracted advanced particle scientists, suffered a minor setback in their attempts to create an "alternative power source" combining sonic energy with magnetic and cosmic rays. This minor setback altered the DNA inside pregnant Akino Garsea. She, Jason, and her husband, Adam, have received many benefits the last 17 years:

  • A Platinum Healthcare Card good for up to $1,000,000.00 per family member per year at any US military hospital. Coverage includes plastic surgery, dental work, or any procedure made necessary by side effects of the accident.
  • Perpetual government ID cards which allow the family to shop at Post and Base Exchanges (PXs and BXes) at the military discount.
  • A $52,000.00 annual stipend per family member, which explains Jason's "check card."

Jason spent his formative years in military schools with government connections, until an accidental power discharge during a schoolyard fight sent five classmates to the hospital. It is interesting to note that Jason Garsea and Namor Christianson ('Porter) were once classmates at Hillcrest Military Academy in Portland.

After the accident, Jason ended up at Collegium Caine, which is run by a friend of a family friend. (FBI Special Agent Antonio Marcoli, Joshua Caine’s COMETPRO connection, is a friend of the Garsea family.) Joshua Caine helped the youngster control his energy discharges, but he kept the powerful meta-human on his Second Cadre instead of his First (later known as The Foundry). Events surrounding the Police Strike of 2002 forced Joshua to promote Jason, as Energon, temporarily to The Foundry, despite the youngster's lack of discipline.

Energon

Nevermore's Evaluation: Energon is a prime example of one's belief that possessing great power constitutes a license to do as one pleases; adolescent rebellion and super powers are a volatile mix. His ability to mix sonic, magnetic and cosmic energy--and take their forms--makes him one of the five most powerful meta-humans I have ever met. He has proven to be an asset in the field, preventing collateral damage by magnetically confiscating firearms or "locking down" suits of powered armor. However, he has been a strain on the more mundane school operations with his nocturnal excursions and skirting of the rules.

And to think that his military-school experience almost led me to make him a Floor Prefect! Energon may be using rebellion and arrogance to mask his remorse over an unfortunate schoolyard accident. His upbringing has been as sheltered as 'Porter's, albeit with greater government-subsidized privilege, at various private military academies. His background lends well to an ability to keep secrets--perhaps even from himself--despite his disregard for procedure.

Energon still needs to learn tactics, teamwork and discipline. So do some of the rest of The Foundry, too, but I believe time spent with peers is better than time spent sneaking out to endanger oneself in The Old World neighborhood.
